Pink Origami Flapbox

Hello dear friends and fellow bloggers, and a Happy New Year to you all.  For many of us last year was rather trying, to say the least, so I hope for a happy and healthy 2014 for us all!

My mojo is still on holiday I think.  I spent ages in my craft room yesterday and all I managed to do was break the handle on my Grand Calibur!!  However my fairy godfather (aka John!)  has managed to fix it but I will have to be careful from now.

I made various little boxes coming up to Christmas so that I would have something available should we have unexpected visitors.  Since I didn't use them all, and since I didn't use Christmas papers on them,  I now have some little stockpiled gifts.  I will keep popping them onto the blog.

This one is a flap box and I made quite a lot of these last Easter and put some mini chocolate eggs in, but they will hold all sorts of things from chocolates to small gifts.

This is picture heavy I'm afraid.

My Project

Flap box complete with belly band

Two views of the decorated belly band

 Very plain without the band

Another view of the completed box

You don't actually need a belly band because one side of the top slips inside the other for closure. The band is purely decorative.  I cut it from ivory card stock and trimmed Martha Stewart punch and added a  length of spotted grosgrain.  I cut one pink and one ivory SB large Venetian motifs and Cheery Lynn Wreath Strip leaves. A few pearls finished it.  I forgot to take a picture of the open box but if you check out the tutorial you will see it there. It is made from one piece of 12 x 12 cardstock and the space inside measures 4 x4 inches square and the depth is approximately 1½inches.

You can find the tutorial  HERE on Becca Feekin's "Amazing Paper Grace".  If you are not familiar with her work you are missing a treat.

Well that's it for today.

  10. Hi Christine and happy new year. I've been meaning to make some of these for ages but always I get caught up doing something else so maybe this year will be the time? Love the one you've made and the belly band certainly jazzes it up.

  16. Happy New Year Christine! this is gorgeous and I too was using my Grand Calibur and it went klunk!!!! so Paul sorted it but I think its going on a visit to the scrapyard soon LOL I've had it ever since Spellbinders brought them out and its been a work horse but so many of my crafty friends have had them off Create and Craft and they have been useless so I'm thinking of investing in an Ebosser anyway enough waffling hugglessssssssss Sue xxxx

  17. Hi Christine. Happy New Year! Well you've started the New Year with a bang - this is gorgeous and inspired me to have a go. I've made the box and am going to do a belly band too as I think they really make a difference and your rose is just stunning! I'm a big Becca Feeken fan too - she is my favourite crafter (just pipping Sue Wilson!).
My GC handle broke too and I haven't used it that much - as you know, my crafting time is limited. I tried gluing it with all sorts of glue to no avail. Having Googled the problem, I just got in touch with Spellbinders and their English agent sent me a free replacement - great customer service! I think it's a common problem.
Wishing you all good things for 2014.xx

  19. Wow Christine, this is gorgeous, love the rose on top so, so beautiful.

About your GC, my handle broke on mine one day and I got in touch with the manufacturers in USA asking if I could buy just the handle from them and they sent me a new one for free, might be worth trying, not saying you may get a free one but if you could buy one its better than managing with a broken one, I had mine over the year.

    Love & Hugs

  20. Hi Christine, I too hope 2014 is a healthy and happier one. Your box is absolutely beautiful, so delicate looking. I must start to get back in my craft room but have had the dreaded 'lurgy' since New Years Day and it's completely knocked me off my feet! Hugz Dee x
