Flipping Computers!!

Just a quick note to let you know why I am absent.  My computer has died.  My commenting will be very spasmodic because I have to borrow John's laptop when he is not using it. He is busily trying to find out what is wrong with it therefore spending long periods of time on the internet.

I was due a new computer so it's not a problem to buy one.  The major problem is all my data on the old one. John thinks the hard disc might have gone down. My PC is old and I still use XP - or rather did use XP.  John has been going on for ages about me updating, but I was very happy with it, and not being a techie I would rather stick with  what I know.  However, that is about to change!!  Luckily he backed up my hard disc onto a mobile hard drive only last week.  This is something he does periodically but did it mainly at this point because of the stuff on the news about this huge computer virus problem that might arise. But the question is will it transfer to a new computer? We will need to see.  If it won't you ladies up in Scotland will be hearing the wailing and gnashing of teeth!!!

Why do we have our whole lives on computer?  Photos, all my digis, papers etc!! Well I have learned one thing - I will be storing stuff on flash drives too in future.

Hope everybody is well and getting up to date with Christmas cards and Christmas shopping.

Love and hugs Christine xx

Hi Christine,

I know the feeling well, my printer wont print, keep getting lines through everything, keep cleaning the heads but to no avail so we may have to invest in a new printer, not as bad as a computer I know. Don't worry about transferring stuff, if you get Windows 7, XP transfers straight across no problems, at least it did for me! I have found most XP stuff works on Windows 7. Not sure about windows 8 if that's the new one.

Good Luck

Love & Hugs

Hi Christine,
so sorry to hear about your computer. I There should be no prob transferring your data to another computer. The only problem I see is that the new computers have windows 7 or 8 and none of them are as good as the XP one in my opinion.
I too have had probs with my mac lately again. It would not go on the internet after Tony installed a new phone as our old had died. As you say blooming computers. I always back up every couple of days on a separate hard drive,
next to my computer. I also sore my digi images I have bought on a flash drive too.
Hope all goes well with the computer problems.
Have a wonderful day.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.

Hi Christine
Technology eh?
My laptop runs on XP and although its mega slow, I'm loathed to change it as I too would rather the devil I know.
I store stuff on CD but maybe an ext HD or flash stick would be better now that we have a tablet too.
Hope you get sorted soon chuck.
Take care.

Oh dear! We do rely on technology nowadays don't we? I was at the dentist last week and their whole system had 'gone down'; they couldn't do anything, not even make appointments! I hope you get it sorted soon - recently I lost a load of images and digi stamps that I was only storing on a flash drive. They should have been backed up, rather foolishly I just hadn't got around to it...grrr...all gone when the drive 'died'! Carole Z X

Hi Christine, such a pain, all this technology will be the death of civilisation you know. Anyway, I succommed and bought the correct ink for my printer and there is now problem.
I am needing a new laptop and plan to buy one in the next few weeks, this one is so slow and freezes lots, it's a pain.
Hopefully you'll get it sorted out soon, take care and hugs Kate x

Computers computers eh? this was a timely reminder from you (thanks) to back everything up; I find it a bit difficult to do so hubby is on the phone as we speak to the comp techos we use to organise a separate drive to be installed into my comp purely for auto backup.

Just this morning I've been without it as he installed a new faster network card and then struck problems not being able to connect to the int so had to ring the Asus tech to talk him through how to fix.......finally I'm back online again. I sure do wish I was savvy with it all.

I'm sure all will be fine for you.......good luck.

Oh! Christine, nothing worse when these bits of Technology don't do what it says on the tin.
I am hopeless when it comes to computers, really dread when things don't go as I think they should.
I just wish John Jnr would stop long enough to give me info on back up!!
Happy days..........
Have a good day,
Hugs

Hi Christine, so sorry you have a sick computer. Don't we have withdrawal symptoms when we can't get to our pc? Oh yes, we DO! On the transfer of your XP data to a new system, I know it works with Win7 (should imagine Win8 will accpet also). I have a pc that XP on it, primarily because of lots of old software that was not compatible with Win7, or I don't want to have to buy a newer version. The 2 pc's will 'talk with each other', so I can move files from one to the other. If you have a backup of your data, it should load onto a new pc ok. Come visit when you can, and know that all of us feel your pain. I'm happy you took some of your limited time on your hubby's pc, to come visit! Good luck, and Win7 is pretty easy to use. I think Win8 is software on newer computers, and I've heard it is pretty user friendly. Hugs & stay warm.

Poor old you Christine. Unfortunately we rely so much on computers these days. I've spent all day today online sorting insurance. When you think we used to just pick up the phone - now we spend hours trawling the net. Still, job done now - back to the crafting! Hope you are back online soon....Love Lea x

Poor you PC's are great when they work and getting used to new operating systems can be a bind. I have a cricut mini which worked ok till I upgraded software and now it won't work. Cricuit techies are woprking on an update but goodness knows how long that will take. Best of luck with your problems.

Your card is lovely by the way.
